Our Philosophy

Did you know that looking after your teeth and gums also has several other health benefits for your body?

The mouth is a sometimes referred as the pathway into the body. Our mouth has it’s own microbiome with good bacteria and bad bacteria and like our stomachs if it’s out of balance will increase our risks of disease. This can be detected at check-ups with us. For example, tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath. Having an imbalance with many bad bacteria will cause inflammation in our mouths which we call low grade or chronic inflation. This isn’t enough to give rise to oral symptoms that you will notice, but is enough to contribute to higher risks of disease elsewhere in the body. Gum disease the most prevalent disease in of our mouths, has been shown to increase the risk of the following diseases. Heart disease increase risk by 25%, Alzheimer’s disease increased risk by 70% and three times more likely to develop diabetes. A dentist and hygienist can help you reduce the risk of these diseases.

By looking at modifying our diets and eating habits, reducing or to stop smoking, medication, and attending for regular dental hygiene visits our oral microbiome can be once again balanced.

We recommend that most of our patients attend every six months for examinations and visits to our hygienist as any arising problems are better treated in the early stages. This will in obviously detect disease in the mouth but also pave the way to improving your overall body health and lowering the risks heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes.

We encourage our patients to take advantage of our tailored practice plan. This will enable you to obtain a 20% discount on nearly all treatments plus cover for emergency call out, insurance for overseas accidents and much more.

Healthy mouths allow you to concentrate on the aesthetic of your smile with whitening, replacing lost teeth with dental implants, clear braces (Invisalign) and natural tooth coloured fillings and crowns.  We will carefully look at your bite and highlight any accelerated tooth wear in your mouth. Tooth wear is destructive of the teeth and can cause sensitivity, fracture and premature ageing.  This problem is monitored by using a 3-D intra oral scan of the mouth and treated in a number of ways such as Invisalign or night guard.

Here at Church Street Dental Surgery the patients come first.  Dentists listen to the patient and tailor the treatment to the individual. As treatments available increase in complexity, we are also committed to lifelong learning and improving the treatment outcomes for patients. We routinely offer specialist treatments, such as dental implantsfacial rejuvenation and anti-wrinkle treatments at our surgery in Saffron Walden Essex.
