What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with correcting crooked, crowded or misaligned teeth and improving the way the upper and lower jaws meet (the bite). Left untreated, these issues can make teeth harder to clean, contribute to uneven wear, and in some cases affect speech or jaw comfort.
The two main approaches are clear aligners, such as Invisalign, and fixed braces. We recommend Invisalign for the great majority of our patients because it combines effective, predictable results with a virtually invisible, removable appliance that fits around daily life.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign straightens teeth using a series of custom-made, nearly invisible aligners. Each aligner is worn for around one to two weeks before being replaced with the next in the series, gradually moving your teeth, little by little, towards the final position mapped out in your treatment plan.
Invisalign vs traditional braces
Patients often ask us how Invisalign compares to metal braces. The short answer: for most adult and teenage cases, Invisalign achieves the same result with fewer compromises day to day.
Virtually invisible
Clear aligners are far less noticeable than metal brackets and wires, which matters to many adult patients in particular.
Removable
You take your aligners out to eat, drink, brush and floss, so there’s no change to your diet and no extra difficulty keeping your teeth clean during treatment.
Fewer practice visits
Without brackets or wires to adjust, most patients need shorter and less frequent check-up appointments than with fixed braces.
See the result before you start
ClinCheck shows you a projection of your finished smile at the outset, something traditional braces cannot offer.
Fixed braces still have a role for certain complex bite corrections, and your dentist will tell you honestly if that’s a better fit for your case.

Wearing your aligners
You wear each set of custom-made aligners for around one to two weeks before moving to the next in the series.

Who is Invisalign suitable for?
Invisalign can treat most common alignment issues, including crowding, gaps, and mild to moderate bite problems, in both teenagers and adults. More complex bite corrections may be better suited to fixed braces or a combination approach; we’ll always be upfront about which route gives you the best result.

Can adults have Invisalign, or is it only for teenagers?

Will I need to wear a retainer afterwards?
